Hi! I'm Tinea! I'm a PhD student of Engineering Physics at UGent, I'm 31 years old and I have 3 parrots of my own! I come from sunny and warm Croatia which means I speak all of the ex-Yugoslavian languages + english and spanish (learning dutch is a work in process).

I'm offering bird sitting!

I own 3 beautiful, smart, and hand-tame parrots: 2 budgerigars and 1 cockatiel which were either rehomed to me or have been rescued. The budgies and the cockatiel are separated in two different huge cages (130x80x50 cm). They're all on a varried diet; fresh veggies like broccoli , carrots, cucumbers (and occasionally fruit), Harrisons pellets, and seeds. All of my birds have PCR tests confirming that they don't have PBFD, chlamydia, ABV or psittacine polyomavirus.

HOUSE VISITS

I can come to your place to give your bird(s) fresh water and food, and to also let them out of the cage so they can stretch their wings a little. If they like getting head scratches I will gladly scratch them until their cheeks fall off 😊. If I notice your bird is not doing well I can also take her to a vet (I have a transporter that can fit an african grey-sized bird if needed) for a checkup and give her medicines if needed. I can also clean their cages if needed!  

BOARDING

I gladly accept boarding of your small to medium sized bird(s) at my apartment. I have a spare cage which is big enough to temporarily house 2 small birds (such as budgerigars, parrotlets, lineolated parakeets, or lovebirds) or 1 medium sized bird (such as a conure, cockatiel, quaker/monk parakeet, indian ringneck or rosella). Of course, there are also plenty of natural wood perches and toys made of natural and bird-safe materials that come with the cage. If you prefer to bring your cage that's also perfectly fine! 😊

I normally go to the office from 8-16 h and I'm home by 16:30 h. This means your parrot friends would have out-of-cage time from 17:00-21:00 h. If your bird(s) have a different sleeping schedule that's perfectly fine, I'll follow your instructions. There is also a LED lamp next to the cages to reduce the risk of night frights. In case they happen I always hear them (I'm a light sleeper) and run to them to calm them down.  

I also have a security camera installed in front of their cages to have my eye on them while I'm at work. Additionally, my husband works from home and can take care of them if anything happens.

Teflon is strictly forbidden in my house as well as candles, chemicals, air freshners, toxic plants, etc. 

All of my windows have a thick mosquito mesh over them and the windows and doors are never open when the birds are out of the cage.

My birds also have an excellent veterinarian; Dr Tom Hellebuyck in Merelbeke at the UGent veterinary clinic if needed. If your bird(s) require medications administered to the beak I can also do that very gently, without any gloves or restraining methods without stressing your bird(s).
